12 Scope Modes

All zunzheng monitors comes standard with 12 Mode On-Screen Scopes. Up to two types of Scopes can be displayed simultaneously and can be toggled on/off instantly with a single button press. Available Scope modes include Luminance Waveform, Vector Scope (with 1x, 2x, 4x Gain Expansion), RGB Parade, GBR Parade, RGB Overlay, YRGB Peak (Column), Histogram, Color Histogram, RGB Histogram, YCbCr, YCbCr Overlay, and Audio Phase Meter. Additionally these Scope Windows can be displayed in any of 6 onscreen locations and the two scope windows can be stacked on top of each other or sit side by side for maximum flexibility. FSI is also one of the few companies to provide this scope functionality across all inputs, even DVI. This means that full scope functionality is possible while using many of today's most popular HDSLR cameras that only offer HDMI output.




Audio Disembedding & Audio Level Meters


Every zunzheng monitor is also equipped with a built-in audio disembedder and internal speakers allowing you to listen to any single channel or stereo pair of embedded audio channels pulled from HD/SD-SDI video on the internal speakers or via the monitor's audio line out. This disembedded audio is always delayed by the exact amount of video processing and pixel response time to ensure perfect lip sync for audio critical applications. You can also meter all 16 channels of embedded audio on screen at a time either across the top of the screen in a horizontal layout (VU with dB readout) or next to one of the Scope Mode Windows displayed in a vertical layout (PPM).






LUM Coloring Exposure Check

The LUM Coloring Exposure Check feature provides a false color map showing signal luminance levels on-screen. This feature can be turned on/off with a single button press allowing an operator to quickly and easily check exposure levels. In its default configuration this feature will show all levels above 100 IRE as white and all levels below 0 IRE as black. However, these thresholds can be quickly raised or lowered so that any luminance level can be set as a reference upper or lower threshold. A user defined center area can also be shown in greyscale instead of being color coded so that only levels between very specific upper and lower ranges will be highlighted in a false color. Also note that the Luminance scale can be changed between voltage, IRE, or Digital Levels depending on operator preference.

DSLR Zoom


The DSLR Zoom features allows for full screen scaling of DSLR video outputs when in preview or record modes, whether in 1080 or 480 resolution. Additionally, the DSLR Zoom feature works in conjunction with other features such as markers and scopes making zunzheng monitors an ideal complement to DSLR work-flows.




Focus Assist


This feature provides you with a movable focus assist window that will highlight in focus areas within the window as red and will also provide you with a numerical indication of focus level. The focus threshold is adjustable so you can establish the level at which the red focus highlight will begin to appear. This feature in conjunction with the 1:1 pixel mapping feature provides operators with different methods for judging focus.


Measurement Feature


The measurement feature allows you to select any single pixel or block of pixels using a movable cross hair to obtain real time readouts of the YRGB values for that position. The YRGB values can be represented in the operator's choice of an 8 bit (0~255) or 10 bit (0~1023) range and will also be shown as a percentage value. Additionally, a reference position (both spatial and temporal) may be set, which then allows the cross-hair to be moved to any other onscreen position to obtain a real-time readout of the difference between the current and reference position values. The measurement feature also allows you to define any onscreen position (spatial and temporal) as your F Stop 0 reference and then quantifies the difference between your reference and current position as an F Stop value.


Timecode Display
All zunzheng Monitors are capable of pulling VITC 1, VITC 2, or LTC Timecode out of serial digital video and displaying it in any of 6 on-screen locations.


Pixel Zoom
This feature allows you select any portion of an HD signal and zoom in on it for a high quality closeup of just that portion of the signal. The Pixel Zoom feature works in real-time and plays video back without any additional delay even when in the zoomed mode.


Sub Window Freeze Frame

The sub window mode allows you to take any incoming signal and freeze it on the left side of the screen while keeping the video from that same input playing live on the right side of the screen. This mode is useful in matching different shots/scenes.


On-Screen Alarms
The monitor can be setup to provide a small onscreen dialog box whenever a specified alarm condition is met. By default the IRE alarm will be triggered whenever signal luminance exceeds 100IRE, but this threshold level is customizable so that the operator can specify a different IRE trigger level for the IRE alarm. Additional alarms include RGB Alarm, Audio Mute, Loss of Signal, Black Field, and Blue Field. The advantage of the onscreen alarm system is that it allows operators to monitor a full video signal with no obtrusive overlapping Scope Windows because the alarm dialog box will only appear when an alarm event occurs.

"My Flanders Scientific LM2450 (now LM-2460W) monitor has allowed me to work in new ways and to expand my business into new creative arenas. Coming from a long history of editing, working for networks, production companies, and big post facilities, I recently decided to strike out on my own working directly with content creators. To do so, I have beefed-up my equipment inventory so I have all my own tools for any type of post-production work. The most important tool I need is a high quality and full featured multi-format HD monitor. A monitor that not only looks good while cutting creatively but also has features I need for detailed effects compositing as well as a solid broadcast reference monitor for color grading and finishing for final deliveries. One of my favorite features of my Flanders Scientific monitor is its built-in waveform and vector scopes that both display on screen at the same time. No longer do I need to lug around a costly waveform / vector scope when I take my system to a client’s office or studio."

"Recently I was asked to color grade and finish the movie I’m Still Here, which was directed by Casey Affleck and starred Joaquin Phoenix. Casey and Joaquin produced this film on DVCpro50 HD and because of the way it was shot (using mostly natural lighting), it had some demanding correction challenges. I moved my FCP Studio 3 system into Casey’s office where we could comfortably collaborate on color and look. Since this movie was captured on video, I was working at REC709 color space. I used the latest Apple Color integrated with the Euphonix M C Color Artist series control surface. This combination of deep tactile control from the M C Color panel and critical image evaluation made possible by the LM2450 (now LM-2460W) made for a fun and rewarding creative experience. After my final pass of color grade on all 6 reels of the movie, I made an uncompressed 1080 10 bit 4:2:2 select sequence of portions of the film for print test purposes. This file was delivered to FotoKem in Burbank where they scaled it up to 2K and applied their proprietary LUT for the 35mm film stock we were using. A print test screening was then scheduled for us to review the print quality. To Casey’s and my delight, the 35mm print color and contrast turned out to be exactly as I had graded it to be on my FSI LM2450 (now LM-2460W) monitor. All 6 reels of the film were finished this way, delivered as files to FotoKem, printed to 35 mm film, and mastered for digital delivery for theatrical and digital exhibitions. Casey Affleck as well as the FotoKem personal commented to me and my post-production supervisor that they thought the color grading on this movie was excellent."
